Current Projects

We actively promote the Goodwill Mission project, which is a yearly cultural exchange of students and citizens. Every year students from Omihachiman and Grand Rapids participate in exchanges. Students from Japan typically come in March to Grand Rapids, staying with host families for about two weeks. Every other year, citizens from Grand Rapids participate in an official delegation to Omihachiman, where they are immersed into the culture through host families, excursions in Japan, and the famous gift giving exchange with the Mayor of Omihachiman. On the alternating years, arranged for 2010, citizens from Omihachiman come to Grand Rapids and are exposed to the Great Lakes summer. These exchanges are a wonderful opportunity, and an important part of achieving our mission. If you are interested in participating or would like to be a host family, please contact us at grsci.omi@gmail.com.
