The Bach Chorale of Grand Rapids will present its fall 2013 concert on Sunday, November 3rd, at 7:30 pm, at the Basilica of St. Adalbert in downtown Grand Rapids. For this concert, the Bach Chorale is collaborating with the Calvin Capella, the top student choir at Calvin College. A sextet of brass instruments will also participate in this festive concert.
We will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of Giovanni Gabrieli’s death with a program of compositions by him and other composers of his era, as well as choral works from the 19th and 20th centuries, many of them inspired by Gabrieli’s style.
The most prominent feature? Cori spezzati, which refers to two or more choral groups positioned in more or less opposing locations in a large auditorium. It all goes back to St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, which was the ideal space for this particular type of music because of a variety of lofts and balconies.
Tickets ($15.00 and $12.00) can be obtained at the door, but can also be reserved at our website: http://www.bachchoralegrandrapids.org/
